Jumping jacks come with great health benefits, but let’s be honest, who actually does them?
Many individuals struggle to establish a consistent workout routine due to busy lifestyles and a lack of motivation. Traditional exercise methods can feel inaccessible, especially for beginners and those without gym access. And jumping jacks? that just sounds dull.
This highlights the need for a fun, engaging solution that makes fitness approachable and habit-forming especially for beginners and people who have limited outdoor access.
How can you design something that makes daily exercises fun?
The challenge was to create a sustainable daily workout habit. Conventional fitness routines often lack engagement and a rewarding structure, leading to poor adherence. Users needed a solution that offered clear guidance, consistent motivation, and an element of fun to encourage regular exercise.
To bring Jump Fit to life, I conducted 5 usability tests and iterated on the design based on direct user feedback. This rigorous process helped refine the gamification methods, ensuring every element, from health tips to mystery gift rewards, resonated with users.
How can behavioral psychology make fitness a daily habit?
Using Nir Eyal’s Hooked Model; Trigger, Action, Investment, and Reward, the task was to create a habit-forming experience. The app engages users with daily workout triggers, encourages immediate action, builds investment through progress tracking, and reinforces motivation with health tips and mystery rewards.
Iterative testing and validation were key to developing a seamless, engaging experience that effectively motivates users to exercise daily.
Story Board
Visualizing the user journey, I created a storyboard to map out how users interact with Jump Fit, from opening the app to forming a daily workout habit.
Prioritizing features effectively, I used the MoSCoW framework to categorize must-have, should-have, could-have, and won’t-have features, while Kano cards helped identify which features would truly delight users.
Designed a clear and intuitive navigation path, ensuring users could seamlessly progress from onboarding to completing their daily workout challenge.
Rapidly sketched multiple layout ideas to explore different UI possibilities before moving into digital design.
Established a cohesive visual identity, defining typography, colors, and UI components to create a consistent and engaging user experience.
Created high-fidelity prototypes with refined visuals, interactions, and micro-animations to deliver a polished, test-ready design.
I conducted extensive user testing, documenting the entire process to track insights and iterations. Using techniques like prioritizing issues, time on task, first-click analysis, and the SCAMPER method, I identified key usability challenges and refined the design based on user feedback. This iterative approach ensured that Jump Fit evolved into an intuitive, engaging, and habit-forming fitness app.
